چکیده

In this article we focus on organizations that manufacture products consisting of information. Examples of this kind of organizations are banks, insurance companies and parts of the government. We cornpare these information producing organizations with organizations that deliver material (tangible) products, like cars, electronic devices and clothing. The introduction of information technology in these latter organizations has led to measurably better performance; but these iraprovements are barely entangled in information producing organizations. In the article we try to understand why this is the case and how we can improve the performance of information producing organizations by looking at material production. The first section discusses the research field and the problems faced. The second section suggests that the problems may arise from a lack of methodology to design information production processes. The last section takes the production control system for information production as an example to demonstrate an approach for redesign towards better logistic performance. Keyword Codes: H.1.0, H.4.0, H.4.2

Optimization of two-stage production/inventory systems under order base stock policy with advance demand information

It is important to share demand information among the members in supply chains. In recent years, production and inventory systems with advance demand information (ADI) have been discussed, where advance demand information means the information of demand which the decision maker obtains before the corresponding actual demand arrives. Appropriate production and inventory control using demand info...

Application of Markov Processes to the Machine Delays Analysis

Production and non-productive equipment and personnel delays are a critical element of any production system. The frequency and length of delays impact heavily on the production and economic efficiency of these systems. Machining processes in wood industry are particularly vulnerable to productive and non-productive delays. Whereas, traditional manufacturing industries usually operate on homoge...

Redesigning a Book Production Process Using Dfe Tools

The design for the environment (DfE) tools are used to include the environmental objectives into all of the company’s processes, and their suppliers and customers if possible. This paper investigates the benefits of applying DFE tools in the graphic arts industry, specifically the book production process. A present book production process in a print shop was redesigned taking into account the q...

Experimental Study of Packing Time and Melt Temperature Effects on Shrinkage of a Thin Sheet Made of Wood-HDPE Composite

Injection molding is one of the most common processes which are used for manufacturing different plastic parts. This method includes 3 continuous steps: filling of the mold, cooling and driving the part out. A wide range of plastic and Non-Plastic materials can be used as raw material in this process. One of the most important advantages of this way of production is that it is very economic. In...

Knowledge Management in Lean Production Systems

The implementation of Lean Production Systems is more than redesigning some production processes. The most seminal change has to be made in people’s knowledge. Otherwise, the changes will not be sustainable. Most implementation processes describe the sequence of necessary tasks but do not regard the integration of knowledge in the organization. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze how knowledg...
